Phonics/Writing: Children will be sent home with our 'Sound of the Day' sheet on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday we consolidate our learning so there is no new sound. The aim of this sheet is to communicate with you which sound we have covered that day, but also to enable your child to practise their letter formation. There are some weeks in our phonics programme which are 'review' weeks so new sounds are not taught and therefore there will not be a homework sheet. As the year progresses there will be activity sheets sent home on a Friday which will help the children consolidate the reading and writing skills they have been working on.
Reading: Children will bring their new book home every Friday. This book is closely matched to their phonics and reading level. Please ensure you read this book at least three times with your child. They will also bring home a 'Read Together' book which they can enjoy listening to you read to them. Please spend time discussing this book with your child. There is also access to an ebook library via the Oxford Owl website. Children will be given their own unique log in code to enable them to access books which have been set for them. These books will also closely match their phonics/reading ability.
Your child will also bring home words to add to the 'Tricky Words' folder. Please help your child to be able to immediately recognise these words and to read these speedily. As these are tricky words the children cannot sound them out.
